Bridal Show Survival Guide

Bridal shows can be so helpful for brides who are looking for an easy way to meet with vendors in person. They can also be SUPER OVERWHELMING! So I put together a few tips that will hopefully make your trip a little less stressful :)

Make a new email
It may sound a little silly, but you’ll want all of your wedding mail in one place. And after the wedding, you’ll want to ignore all of the mail that you get from mailing lists who don’t know that you’ve already tied the knot.

Prepare yourself
Something I always see at shows are brides with address labels printed with all of their information. This way when you want to enter to win something, or give a vendor your info, you don’t have to rewrite everything right there. Just make a label that has your names, date, that new email and phone number. Now, vendors have an easy way to contact you!

Know what you’re looking for
If you already have a venue, don’t spend time talking to a venue! I see this all the time! So many brides get sucked in to booths that they really don’t need to see. Go in to the snow knowing what you still need to book, and spend your time and energy focusing on that.

It’s okay to say no
Piggybacking on the last point: some vendors can be super pushy to get your attention. If you’re not looking for suits for your guys, you really don’t have to talk to the tuxedo place. It really doesn’t offend anyone if you just walk by and politely say ‘no thanks’ or ‘I’ve already got that’

Bring your squad
Don’t be afraid to invite your friends and family with you! I will warn you ahead of time, most men get VERY BORED and pretty grumpy after about 20 minutes :) There is a lot of walking and standing involved, so leave the little ones at home if you can, and take lots of pictures for grandma to help her feel included.

Don’t forget your favs
Trust me when I say, when you get home, your brain will be fried. The whirlwind of vendors and ideas and pamphlets and business cards will be swirling around in your brain. All of the booths and conversations will blend together and knowing who was who will be pretty difficult. I ALWAYS suggest to brides who look overwhelmed to take notes on the pricing sheets and business cards. Draw a star on the ones who you really like, so when you get home you can have somewhere to start.

Have fun!
You’re planning your wedding! Have fun with it. The only rule is that you have to sign a legal document, everything else is whatever you want it to be. Eat the free food and cake, sign up to win that free honeymoon, and take the photos in the booth. Have fun :)

If you're interested in going to a show with amazing vendors, KC Weddings Bridal Spectacular is on February 4, 2017 from 10-5 at the Overland Park Convention Center! They will have two fashion shows and over $20,000 in giveaways. I'll have a booth there, so make sure you stop by and say hello! Tickets are available at the door, or online here.
